Clarins Eye Quartet & Liner Palette Swatches and Review

Tuesday, May 4, 2010

Whenever spring/summer rolls around, cosmetics companies like to release collections that help us look like suntan goddesses without really having to bake in the sun for hours.  I'm excited to share with you Clarins New Instant Sun Light Summer Make-Up Collection.

Clarins was founded by Jacques Courtin-Clarins who opened his first beauty institute on the rue Tronchet in Paris in 1954.  The company is known for making high quality beauty products made exclusively from plant extracts. It became the leading skin care leader in France in 1980.  Clarins launched the first makeup line in 1991 and perfume widely loved and known by many, Angel by Thierry Mugler in 1992.   Today, Clarins New Instant Sun Light Summer Make-Up Collection consists of Eye Quartet & Liner Palette, Instant Sun Light click & Gloss SPF 6, Instant Smooth Compact Highlighter, Delectable Self-Tanning Mousse SPF 15, Waterproof Eye Pencil, and Fix' Makeup.  In the next 5 days, I will review several of these products for you focusing especially on the Limited Edition items.

The Eye Quartet and Liner Palette consists of four neutral shades and an eyeliner to create countless looks from sweet to sultry. The palette also contains a double-ended eye shadow applicator, an eyeliner brush, and a mirror for ease of application during travel. What I love most about Clarins is the company's attention to detail by including a nice leather pouch to cover the silver metallic palette casing. It's rather neat that I can use the top of the case as a mirror since I can see my reflection from it! This is a Limited Edition Palette retailing at $36USD.

When I opened the palette, I'm greeted with this super gorgeous flower design with gold veining on the petals.  This is one of those products where the design is so pretty you just want to stare at it and not really use it to avoid messing up the patterns. From left to right on the top row, there is pearly ginger and iridescent cinnamon.  On the bottom row, there is matte cocoa and sparkling paprika.  Metallic nutmeg eyeliner is the stripe on the very right hand side.

Pearly ginger is a beige color that comes off almost white in the picture with shimmer. This is good for highlighting inner corners or the eye and brow bone.
Iridescent cinnamon is a shimmery medium brown that reminds me of MAC's Mulch but with a tint more red.  It is a really pretty brown color.
Matte cocoa is a matte brown darker than iridescent cinnamon but applies very smooth for a matte. I had no issues getting the color in 1-2 swipes.
Sparkling paprika looks pink in the pan but swatches as a golden color.

Metallic nutmeg eyeliner is a beautiful reddish brown with golden shimmer liner that is very smooth to apply.

After swatching the colors, I couldn't resist and applied it onto my lids to see how the colors work for an everyday look with MAC's Fresco Rose as a base.  I used the Pearly Ginger in the inner corner, sparkling paprika in the mid lid, Iridescent cinnamon in the outer 3rd of the lid with Matte cocoa in the crease, and Metallic nutmeg eyeliner to line the eyes.

Overall, I really love this palette and if you are a neutral color lover like me, I think you'll really like it as well.  The colors are nicely pigmented, smooth, and just really beautiful.  I'm generally not a fan of palettes because you get 1-2 colors that work but all the colors are wearable in Clarins Eye Quartet & Liner Palette. Since this is a limited edition item, I highly recommend checking out the palette at your local Clarins counters or online at Clarins under "Makeup -> New Collection".
What do you think of the palette? Would you check it out?

I like the look you did! The palette has very nice neutrals but I think the colors are easily dupe-able. Great review, nonetheless.

Thanks for the info on the 239 brush & the MAC eyeshadows! I've very excited for Shroom. I'm pretty much a neutral gal, but I'll branch out to purples and pinks. I don't know if I could pull off anything brighter than an icy blue. I'll give it a shot someday, I'm sure :)

P.S. I think I need that Clarins palette now too :) Very pretty.

I like the colors! I've never used Clarins before so I've not much an opinion on the eyeshadows, but it looks like it'd be worth trying.
