During my trip to IMATS, one of the counters I really wanted to visit was Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, also known as OCC by many beauty lovers. I have seen lots of raves and reviews on the lip tars from various blogs so naturally I was intrigued. It was definitely love at first swipe when I got my hands on them. I wanted to pick up NSFW and Memento but those colors were already sold out. I immediately picked up Melange for a MLBB look and was pleasantly surprised to see Divine in the IMATS press kit.
OCC offers 27 lip tar shades with each retailing at $12.50USD for 8mL. These are packaged in small plastic tubes with white caps. I like the portability of the lip tars as they're easy to throw into a purse or makeup bag without taking up too much space or leaking everywhere. All of the lip tars from OCC are 100% Vegan/Cruelty-Free, does not contain harsh preservatives, and are Paraben-free. The packaging is also recyclable so please do not throw them into the garbage when you're done.
There is a small hole cut in the tube to dispense the lip tars. This is very similar to other lip balm packaging. However, these lip tars are extremely pigmented so try not to squeeze the tube hard or you will end up with too much product.
When I first did a test swatch at IMATS, I ended up with a huge stain on my hand with multiple colors from the lip tars. These are certainly not your typical lipgloss or even lipstick. They are the smoothest liquid lipgloss/lipstain on the market. I wouldn't compare them with Chanel Rouge Allure Lacque because these stain the lips much more, are solid colors, and the packaging is very different. There is definitely a minty smell when applied to the lips but these are surprisingly very moisturizing. This is because Hemp Oil, Peppermint Oil and Vitamin E are part of the ingredients list.
Below is a picture of Melange and Divine side by side. Melange is described as a Terracotta Neutral color where Divine is a Pale Vivid Pink Flamingo. I gently squeezed just a little bit from each tube onto my arm and sheered them out so you can see what a little bit of product can produce. You can see in the swatch of Melange, I definitely pressed too hard on the tube and got a crazy amount of product. My arm was stained for a couple of hours even after scrubbing it with oil, makeup remover, and Dawn!
Divine is definitely a neon barbie pink color. Color right out of the tube is neon neon neon! It scared me quite a bit because it's certainly not the type of color I usually wear. However, it is actually a wearable color when using a little bit of the color sheered out. Those who love bright barbie pink will definitely love Divine.
Here is Divine on the lips in dark/indoors lighting.
Divine in brighter/outdoor lighting. Here you can see the colors are much brighter and more vivid. Divine settles into my lip lines much more compared to Melange. However, these do not dry out the lips but in fact feel very moisturizing and comfortable.
Melange is more of a brick red/brown color that's wearable for neutral lovers like myself. I find this as a MLBB color that will be beautiful on all skin tones. You can build the intensity of the colors by adding more product with a lip brush, but definitely start off with a small amount first.
Here is Melange in dark/indoor lighting. You can see the glossy effect it has on the lips much better compared to outdoor lighting.
Melange in brighter/outdoor lighting. This is definitely a terracotta color.
Overall I am very impressed with OCC lip tars and would highly recommend picking these up for special occasions or even everyday usage if you don't mind staining your lips. They are extremely comfortable on the lips, have great wear time, and are insanely pigmented. You are definitely getting a bang for the buck with this product. For makeup artists, the 27 shades OCC offers provide an endless mix of lip color combination. Those who are neutral lovers like myself will probably like Melange and Memento (Pink Plum). Nude lip lovers have Hush while bright color lovers will adore Hoochie, Grandma, Demure, Divine, Anime, and many more on the list. You can find out more information on the lip tars on OCC's website here.
