The one that started it all...

I find myself writing about the latest and greatest collection release from MAC at least once a month on this blog. It's both exciting and thrilling to stand at the counter on the release date, oogling over the products and furiously swatching/photographing/posting them on the blog to share with you.  There are even times when I would get tempted by my own review or photos of the products.  I think the MAC marketing teams are geniuses by teasing us with these endless limited edition releases. This got me to think, how did all the frenzy started and what caused me to be so mesmerized by MAC?  I thought long and hard about it and realized it was Trax.

Ten years ago, I went into a frenzy phase of collecting purple eyeshadows.  I searched high and low for the perfect purple/eggplant/lilac. One day, I stopped by MAC and saw Trax eyeshadow staring back at me from the shelves.  Needless to say, I bought it with my college student budget and it became an everyday staple.  Although I didn't exactly know how to apply it back then, I kept on piling it onto my eyelids day after day prompting my oh-so-sweet brother to ask "Who punched you in the eyes??".  My MAC collection has undoubtedly grown over the past 10 years beyond just one eyeshadow, but I'll always remember the one that started it all. Thanks Trax!

What is your favorite cosmetics brand? Do you remember the first one that started it all?

My favourite brand is MAC, and the first I ever purchased was Fulfilled Plushglass, which is so sheer it's almost transparent. It didn't really wow me, but how could it? It's a clear gloss after all!

The product that did really vow me was Petticoat. I bought it a year later and that really got things started. I still love it!

I started buying MAC products about 10 or 11 years ago also. I still remember my first purchase, it was for the eyeshadow Paradisco and Aquadisiac, I had always wanted an Aqua colored eyeshadow and when I saw Aquadisiac I fell in love. I think I wore that color everyday for a month. After that I was hooked, I only bought MAC products for years. I got tired of MAC and how every few weeks they released a new collection.

My favorite brand is Chanel right now but I still like MAC, they have some staple products I always go back to.

i started out with drugstore stuff because i didn't know better then i moved onto more expensive brands. still not really knowing the technique of application until got into MAC(2 1/2 yrs ago) and their brushes have really helped me learning with my makeup application. I don't have a fave brand but i love finding gems in each different cosmetic brand :)

For me it was Lancome definicils and MAC "O" lipstick that started it all. It doesnt help that my mom is a cosmetic addict and passed on that gene to me.

my favorite if probably Mac, though it's really hard to pick one! Aside from my first eyelash curler, the first cosmetic brand i tried was revlon. I know it was a drugstore brand.

I am one of those who was not interested in MAC at ALL when I started to wear makeup. Haha, I think I started out with mabelline for my senior prom in high school, and I never use that quad anymore, haha! When I really really started makeup, I started with Lunasol and I loved it which is a super bad habbit, haha!^0^

Pinch - nice! Do you have the original Petticoat or the re-release?

Diane - We're alike. I love Chanel as well. I'm slowly converting to all Chanel lip products.

Makeup by Kim Porter - MUFE is such an awesome brand. They should really have their own counters at Nordstrom/Macys.

Kat O - Aww sorry you missed HK. It was such a popular collection. UD colors are so vibrant and pigmented.

Nic Nic - yep MAC brushes are great for application. 99% of my brushes are from MAC.

prettyaspeaches - haha cute. You have your mom as your partner in crime for cosmetics!

Tiptoe21 - I started out with drugstore as well!

Crystal/Cherry - Lunasol palettes are so cute. Too bad they're not readily available in the US.

PinkOrchids - thanks! Mina is a total diva princess.

I've always been obsessed with MAC, even when I couldn't afford it, I would just go to the counter and stare. I was young so I'm sure all the SA's thought I was so annoying!

I googled “cosmetic store” one day, and came a crossed the urban decay website, I instantly fell in love with there makeup and packaging, and knew I had to get the products. So my hubby took me to Sephora, on my birthday, and I could pick out whatever shadows I want. So I got UD’s deluxe eyeshadows in heat, peace, ransom, fishnet, graffiti, and zero. Now I’ve bought drug store brands when I was younger, but getting Urban Decay products really started a frenzy over makeup.

My favorite brand is LORAC with NARS right up there as well. I started wearing makeup senior year so I've only been into it about 3 years now but the first time I "met LORAC" was when I was introduced to their Snake Charmer Palette at Sephora. I never looked back.

I always loved make-up and had enough to paint to my face and look pretty.
My obsession to own a Sephora at home started 2 yrs back. I was so overwhelmed wth all the highend stuff, that I ended up buying a MUFE BLack e/s...LMAO! Then I discovered CCO...Youtube added fuel to fire....and the rest is History!

I started out and still use today, a lot of drugstore products! However ever since I found a great brand for mineral products (Everyday Minerals) my obsession for makeup grew! I now use a lot of MAC products, but mostly blushes, MSFs and highlighters.

Started as we all do with drugstore, then a brief toying with Mary Kay. But the first High End makeup counter for me, was Ultima II when it was a department store brand in the mid to late '70's. Weren't alot of the fabulous choices we have now - only Lancome, Chanel, Estee Lauder, Princess Marcella Borghese and Ultima II.

However, I still use Lucidity Pressed Powder from EL - and it is still the best.
