MAC 217 Blending Brush Review

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

The MAC 217 Blending Brush is another favorite among beauty lovers and makeup artists.  This is used to blend powder/cream shadows or other products.  The shape of the head is oval with densely packed fibers.  It is a bit cheaper than the 239, retailing at $22.50 and is also 17cm long.

MAC 239 Eye Shader Brush Review

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

The 239 brush has been and will continue to be a staple in makeup artists' tool kit. It is a soft and dense brush use for packing on shadow (powder, cream, pigments), shading, and blending.  All MAC original brushes are hand made featuring wood handles and nickel-plated brass ferrules.  Since the brush is made of white goat hair, it take a bit more effort to clean in order to maintain the color.  The MAC 239 retails for $24.50USD and measures 17cm long.

Aside from eyeshadows, lipsticks, and lipglasses, this large collection also includes Chromagraphic pencils, blushes, paint pots and nail polishes.

MAC Pret-A-Papier Swatches and Review Part I

I got a chance to hit the MAC counter today to check out Pret-A-Papier after my stop at Origins.  The theme was definitely focused on coral but I personally don't see the correlation between the color and paper. I only picked up 2 items from the collection and one of them might even go back so we'll have to see after this weekend.  Any how enough chit chat, onwards to the swatches and review!

Beautiful Weekend

Sunday, April 18, 2010

How is everyone's weekend coming along? I have had a great Saturday so far and am looking forward to relaxing all day tomorrow.  If you haven't had a chance to vote on my poll, there are a couple more days left before it closes.  Looks like MAC brushes are due for a review soon so I'll start washing and photographing them soon.  Before running out of the house to take our little dog to the park for a walk, I put together a quick look using the products below.

Shiseido The Skincare Cleansing Massage Brush Review

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Since the past week, my skin has been in a really bad state with constant breakouts in the T-zone and dry flaky patches on the cheeks.  So naturally when our skin looks terrible, we have the tendency to apply more makeup in an attempt to cover up the blemishes.  I know this is not the solution but I can't help going out to the public sans makeup or at least some coverage to even out my face.  Result?  The pores get even more clogged and skin becomes worse rather than improve. It's a vicious never ending cycle!  So after a couple of days, I could no longer stand the breakouts and I headed off to my local beauty counter for an SOS session.

What I was told is that the #1 culprit for clogged pores is lack of proper makeup removal.  When foundation has been sitting on our faces for the entire day, it is extremely important to remove them before heading to bed.  Imagine piling makeup on our pillows and rolling on it for 8 hours day after day. Gross isn't it? After the lecture on proper skincare, the SA directed me to a handy little tool that she insisted would help with proper facial cleansing.

Laura Mercier Skincare Face Polish Review

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Laura Mercier is a brand mostly known for tinted moisturizer and her wonderful smelling body cremes.  Recently I got a chance to try out the face polish from Nordstrom's GWP last month.  The sample is a good 0.4 fl. oz in a cute package that I can easily take on the road during travel.

Sephora Beauty Insider Sale!

Sunday, April 11, 2010

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Did you do anything exciting?  Friday was such an extraordinarily beautiful sunny day that really tempted me to hit the beach for a lazy suntanning afternoon.  Unfortunately that was only a dream as I was stuck at work all day. I thought the weekend was going to be equally nice but boy was I wrong.  It has been raining dogs and cats all day here in the bay area without a break.  So instead of heading out, I stayed in and composed my list of lemmings for the upcoming Sephora Beauty Insider sale.  Starting 4/12-4/19, all Beauty Insiders will get 15% the entire purchase online by using code BI15. If you are not a Beauty Insider yet, just sign up online for an account. It's easy and free!

Here is my list so far:

MAC Prep for Colour Swatches and Review

Saturday, April 10, 2010

MAC Prep for Colour Collection was launched on April 8th, 2010.  It is a relatively small release that has 3 eyeshadows, one tinted lipglass, MAC Prep + Prime Skin Brightening Serum, and MAC Prep + Prime Face Protect SPF 50. There's not a particular focus on one area like Art Supplies where it's mostly targeted for the eyes and lips.  For those of us who are MAC addicts, this is a definite breather from the never ending collections MAC has been releasing.  It also gives us time to save up for the next big release, Pret a Papier and To the Beach.

Korres Cherry Lip Kisses: Swatches and Review

Thursday, April 8, 2010

My biggest weakness with makeup are eyeliners and lip products. I can't seem to have enough of these no matter how many I already have in my drawer.  During one of my usual visits to Sephora, this little package Korres Cherry Lip Kisses was perching happily on the shelf until it caught my eye.  For those of you who are not familiar with Korres, their products are paraben-free and created by using natural ingredients.  Korres is quickly gaining popularity in the beauty industry for their eye cream, lip balms, and of course awesome value sets.

Laura Mercier Oil Free Flawless Face Kit: Swatches and Review

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

The Laura Mercier line is best known for their tinted moisturizer, considered one of the best in the beauty industry.  It has been featured in numerous magazines and taunted as the leading HG product for many on MUA.  For many years I have heard about this product but never really wanted to spend $42USD on "just a tinted moisturizer".  I would always stop by the Sephora counter and wonder if it's really what it's made out to be. Luckily Laura Mercier released a deal that even I couldn't resist, the Laura Mercier Oil Free Flawless Face Kit all for $65USD.  This was my chance to try several of the line's best face products at one time.

Make Up For Ever (MUFE) Aqua Eyes: Swatches and Review

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Make Up For Ever is a well known brand amongst makeup professionals for their pigmented eyeshadow, HD foundations, and pencils.  Similar to Urban Decay, MUFE has a vast offering of 25 different long lasting Aqua Eyes pencils (0L to 24L).  What's unique about these formulas is that they are invented to be a two-in-one eyeshadow and liner pencil.  These pencils have been rumored to used by Cirque du Soleil due to the pigmentation and long lasting quality. They can be purchased at Sephora.

Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliners: Swatches and Review

Monday, April 5, 2010

Aside from their famous shimmer bricks, Bobbi Brown is also well known for their gel eyeliners. These have one of the highest ratings by fellow beauty lovers on MUA.  I was at a Bobbi Brown counter once for a makeover and I fell in love with these liners.  They are smooth, pigmented, and have great wear time.  The line carries 16 colors weighing in at 0.1oz/3g and retailing for $21.

L'Oreal HIP Cream Eyeliner: Swatches and Review

Sunday, April 4, 2010

L'Oreal has a line of HIP (High Intensity Pigment) products which include duo eyeshadow, pigments, and cream eyeliner.  Each contain 0.159oz /4.5g retailing from $10-$12 depending on the drugstore (Target, Walgreen, CVS, Rite Aid, etc). These come in a nice glass jar and each package include an eyeliner brush.  However, the brush is terrible because it is very scratchy and flimsy, making it difficult to create a precise line.  I tossed all the brushes that came with the 4 colors I purchased.  The line comes in 5 basic colors for everyday use (Black, Midnight Blue, Brown, Teal, and Eggplant).

Gift With Purchase

Thursday, April 1, 2010

What's more exciting than a new MAC collection release? Freebies! Right now Nordstrom is giving out a great Gift With Purchase deal that I simply can't pass up. For a purchase of $35, you'll get a nice set from Caudalie.  If your purchase is $100, you'll get both Caudalie and a nice bag of goodies.  It's one of the best GWP I've seen from Nordstrom.  I didn't realize how heavy the GWP was until I pulled it out of the bag.

For you ladies who are going to pick up products from the Art Supplies collection, remember to grab some gifts while you're at it!This is both online and in stores. Image courtesy of Nordstrom.

MAC Art Supplies Review and Swatches: Pro Longwear Lipstain Marker

Along with the eye products, MAC released 9 new Limited Edition Pro Longwear Lipstain Marker 2.5g/0.09oz retailing at $16USD.  These look like cute chubby markers for the lip.  They smell kind of like vanilla but not exactly like the lipglasses.  I didn't try any of these since I don't know who else have put it on and I have a really bad cold right now. In any case, I was excited to get to the MAC counter and get these swatches for y'all.  Let's jump to it shall we?
